Chase Sapphire Reserve Signup Bonus Dropping Soon

The Chase Sapphire Reserve
A quick heads up today — reports are flying through the blogosphere saying that the Chase Sapphire Reserve's super-high 100K point signup bonus is dropping next week. Per Zach Honig at The Points Guy:
" [O]n January 12 (one week from Thursday), the card’s bonus will drop by 50% with the same spending requirement — instead of 100,000 points, you’ll earn 50,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 in the first three months."
It seems there's a possibility that new applicants will still be eligible for the 100K point bonus if they sign up in-branch before March 12, rather than online. However, it sounds like TPG's source was less concrete on that, so if you're debating applying for the card I wouldn't wait. Since the 50K bonus would be the same as the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, I wonder if we'll see the CSP bonus drop to reflect a difference between the two cards.
Note, of course, that the CSR is subject to Chase's 5/24 rule — that means that unless you are preapproved in a branch, your application will be denied if you've opened five or more cards in the past 24 months.
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions!
